Mervyn E. King (22 July 1937, Johannesburg) is Senior Counsel and former Judge on the Supreme Court of South Africa, “Professor extraordinaire” at the College of Economic and Management Sciences of the University of South Africa, and Chairman of the King Committee on corporate governance in South Africa.
In addition, he is a member of the private sector advisory group on corporate governance to the World Bank, Chairman of the Eminent Persons Group to review the governance and oversight of the United Nations, and Chairman of the Global Reporting Initiative’s Board of Directors.
The King Committee on Corporate Governance has released three comprehensive reports and guidelines that endorse an integrated and inclusive approach to corporate governance, embracing stakeholders other than shareholders:
- King I (1994)
- King II (2000)
- King III (2009).
