Message from the Chairman: October
The shop-sa 2019 AGM took place at Killarney Country Club on 17 October 2019.
Attendance was excellent and I would like to thank all who braved the early morning traffic to join us.
Gavin Sharples, a well-known motivational speaker, kicked off with his thought-provoking talk around change, innovation and creativity, which he calls “Chinking”. His ability to tell home truths in a highly-entertaining manner is renown.
Many thanks to SSC, who donated a valuable Parker pen as a gift for Gavin.
The AGM focussed on finances, membership decline and the report-back by Rob Mathews on the progress of the My Office and shop-sa newsletters, again highlighting the opportunities for advertisers.
The good news was that SARS has reinstated shop-sa’s “tax exempt” status as a PBO.
I presented the annual OPI summary, which highlighted trends in the global office products industry.
The existing board was re-elected and a new board member, Roger Bozzoli of RBE, was welcomed to the board.
The consensus at the meeting was, that even with limited resources, the association should be kept alive and it was everyone’s wish that the industry will increase its support.
To achieve this, revenue generation from advertising and membership subscriptions is critical, as expenses could not be reduced any further.
The updated shop-sa Benefit Statement is part of this newsletter.
