Message from the Chairman – July 2020

As I write this message, it is day 124 of lockdown and infections are rising exponentially. This, according to the experts, was expected.

As an industry it is critical we adhere to the regulations to protect our staff and those around us. There is no room for complacency!

Corruption has again reared its ugly head, and one can only hope that Ramaphosa’s promise to clamp down “again” will lead to convictions.

One of the key conditions of being a shop-sa member is integrity and honesty in one’s business practices. As such, your membership certificate does carry weight when dealing with honest government departments.

In our efforts to support the industry, we partnered with LabourNet to host a webinar on 22 July. The topic under discussion was retrenchments and related issues as a result of Covid-19.
The attendance was good and hopefully those attending received clarification on issues in their business. If you missed it, a recording of the webinar is available here.

We will continue to back you, our industry. If there are topics and issues you would like presented let us know, and we’ll try our best to find the right partner.

In the meantime, stay safe and keep strong in your struggle for the survival of your business.

Hans Servas
