GBC, ACCO’s global leading laminating and binding brand, is launching the world’s first automatic laminator: the GBC Foton 30.

For the first time, users will be able to load a laminator with up to 30 sheets of paper, press run, and leave the machine to produce high-quality laminated output time after time, every time. Load – Press – Done. It’s as simple as that.

This game-changing development brings roll film lamination in a unique cartridge format and combines it with Auto Feed paper technology to simplify and speed up the traditionally complex lamination process. Simply load a document into the Auto Feed paper tray as you would a printer. There is no need to manually insert the document into a pouch; the innovative Foton 30 processes the document applying the lamination film automatically. It’s perfect lamination without a pouch.

Fully automated, with no manual intervention required and no misfeeds, the GBC Foton 30’s internally heated four roller system produces a high-quality laminated document. It’s advanced sensors automatically detects the document and film thickness, for perfect results.

Other ground-breaking features include an integrated deskew system to ensure jam free lamination with perfect positioning and borders; a feeder sensor detects leading and trailing edges for perfect document trimming.

The GBC Foton 30 is highly versatile, with three operating modes: From fully automatic to manual feed and manual cut, great for non-standard sized paper including small odd shapes up to large banners.

Finally, the user experience of the GBC Foton 30 includes a comprehensive range of features and indicators. Cartridge installation is simple and fool proof, while the ‘Auto Shutoff’ function saves energy. The ‘Ready’ and ‘Warming up’ indicator and the ‘Film Low/ Empty’ warning light ensure an efficient operation.

Ideal for users with high-volume lamination requirements, the GBC Foton 30 will be the largest product launch in the lamination category since carrier free laminators were launched by GBC in the 1990’s. ACCO Brands has been named ‘2019 Vendor of the Year’ at the 18th European Office Products Awards (EOPAs). The EOPAs are the most prestigious award event in the office products industry, organised by OPI (Office Products International), the leading industry association.

This outstanding recognition comes on the back of other significant awards won by ACCO Brands in 2018: “Vendor of the year” with Office Depot Europe and “Supplier of the year” with VOW.

The EOPAs are firmly established as the ultimate accolade for business supplies companies operating in Europe. It has been labelled as the “cherry on the top” by internal teams at ACCO Brands and celebrates their enormous achievements over the past year. The impressive award was taken to ACCO Brand’s global head office in Chicago, Illinois, and shared with ACCO Brands Corporation Chairman and CEO, Boris Elisman.

This prestigious award was adjudicated by the judging panel comprising of key customers and competitors. The ‘Vendor of the Year’ award takes into account benchmarks including: sales performance and market share gains; innovative, high-quality products and service-driven solutions; efforts to diversify product or service offering; supply chain performance; ability to provide rich data and content and, finally, brand strength.

In its decision making efforts, the judging panel stated: “All eyes have been on ACCO Brands over the past 18 months or so when it faced the task of integrating two businesses in Europe – Esselte and ACCO Brands.” It further noted that ACCO was “highly regarded across a vast product portfolio” and, furthermore, had done “a remarkable job combining the two entities while at the same time instilling a positive, new culture among the workforce and with channel partners.”

This year’s NAOPA People’s Choice Award was presented yesterday at SP Richards’ ABC conference in Orlando, Florida.

It went to a company which is showing time and again that it is eminently possible to continue to innovate in a commoditised market.
ACCO Brands’ Quartet Glass Dry-Erase Desktop Computer Pad struck a chord with ABC delegates (and US OPI readers in the run-up to the event) and was the runaway winner of the final vendor award which was announced at the end of the Business Solutions Expo. This computer pad is ideal for quickly capturing ideas and jotting down daily tasks.

Having had the chance to see and try out the product during the Expo, dealers could clearly see its potential revenue opportunities. Damon Holst, Associate Product Manager at Quartet, said: “This is a product that we believe is really new to the market. It helps people maximize their productivity and importantly does not use too much desk space. Our intention was to solve a problem and it seems to have resonated with people which gives us great confidence.”
The remaining NAOPAs – for Professional and Young Executive of the Year, and Industry Achievement – will be awarded during tomorrow night’s closing Gala Evening of the ABC.

Yesterday’s General Session set the scene for this year’s ABC event and sought to address the varied challenges and threats that independent dealers and indeed the industry as a whole face.

Everybody is aware of and talks about the biggest elephant in the room – Amazon – but that threat certainly shouldn’t be seen in isolation, said SP Richards EVP of Operations Jim O’Brien when he opened the event.
Touching on a number of issues, including creating a higher value proposition with more services and expanded product ranges, and better margin management through proprietary brands and more efficiently using transactional data, O’Brien said: “Something in our model has to change for all parts of the channel because the current model is not sustainable.”

He called for better collaboration between the generations, companies, and channel partners.
“None of us can reach the full potential of our business by working alone,” concluded SP Richards CEO Rick Toppin.

Swingline® Wins NAOPA Award

Swingline® wins a prestigious award for its Stack-and-Shred Shredder™ at the ABC event in San Antonio, Texas.

ACCO Brands has won the People’s Choice Award for its Swingline® Stack-and-Shred Auto Feed Shredders ™- one of 20 product entries for the award.

The Swingline® Stack-and-Shred Auto Feed Shredders ™ launched in January of 2018 and allows users to receive real-time notifications and alerts about their shredding jobs through the SmarTech app without having to manually check the shredder. It is the first of its kind with SmarTech technology and is the first Smart Shredder in the U.S. market.

The NAOPA awards set the industry standard and aim to find the best and most innovative products in the U.S. Office Supplies industry. NAOPA, which is now in its ninth year, is organized by Office Products International (OPI) in association with wholesaler S.P. Richards Company as part of its annual Advantage Business Conference (ABC) event, which took place this year in San Antonio, Texas, from August 19 – 22.

“We are extremely proud of our hard work and the innovative thinking that was used in the creation and launch of the world’s first Smart Shredder,” Associate Product Manager Cory Jones said. “We are honored to be acknowledged by our peers in the office products industry and win NAOPA’s prestigious People’s Choice Award.”
