According to The Verge, a Microsoft product manager Petr Bobek has confirmed that the Redmond giant is planning to release Office 2013 as native apps for Apple‘s iOS andGoogle‘s Android mobile platforms.
In a press release, seen by The Verge, Microsoft’s Czech Republic team confirms what has long been suspected.
“In addition to Windows, Office will be also available on other operating systems, Windows Phone, Windows RT, Mac OS, Android, iOS and Symbian.”
This will finally bring the popular Office suite to two of the most popular mobile platforms on the planet. While there are plenty of third-party apps that can handle Office documents, release of the official apps is likely to be of great interest to those who work a lot with Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents when out and about.
The press release also goes on to give a release schedule for the new Office suite:
“Office 365 services and other Office products for mobile (phones and tablets) will be released from March 2013.”
One question remains … price.
